Daniel asks…

can i add just about anything to foundation to make it smell better?

my foundation smells like an old lady that has lost her scents of smell to horrible things. can I put like drops of vanilla extract in it to help it smell better? or is that not good for my skin?

excel2domain answers:

Perfume is better,
Made for the skin, and you have a variety of smells.

Graham asks…

How long does the waffle dough/batter keep in the refrigerator?

Just to save time in the mornings I prepare waffle dough/batter from scratch (eggs, butter, sugar, milk, flour, vanilla) and have it ready in the refrigerator to pour in the mornings into my waffle iron to have a fresh belgium waffle made from scratch.
Usually one batch lasts me 4 days.
I was wondering is this save to do ??? I am thinking of the raw eggs in the dough/batter. Do you know?

excel2domain answers:

Not that i’m an expert but considering that raw eggs in the shell usually last a good two weeks in the fridge then it makes sense that as long as your batter is refrigerated (and covered) it should be ok to last the 4 days. Naturally don’t lick the spoon or anything before redipping in batter as the bacteria in your saliva would then contaminate the batter making it more likely to spoil. Hope this helps.

Don asks…

Can a person who never eats sweets and doesn’t drink anything but water get diabetes if they eat candy once?

Well, I didn’t mean to say eat candy specifically.

I include drink soda and other stuff etc.

I think I want to try a sip of Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry Vanilla. But I never intake sweets and stuff.

I know that you get diabetes from having too much sugar, but isn’t a little sugar too much for someone who never eats sugary foods?

excel2domain answers:

First, you do not get diabetes from eating too much sugar. Diabetes is caused by a multitude of factors, including genetics.

Second, there’s no sugar in a Diet Dr. Pepper.

Third, even if it wasn’t diet, the amount of sugar would not even contribute to diabetes, regardless of how much sugar you do or do not eat regularly.

Fourth, a non-diabetic person could eat a pure sugary-food diet all day long and his/her body would cope by increasing insulin production and keeping the blood glucose levels normal, with the pancreas working overtime. If you sustained this every day for months or years, you would gain weight, your pancreas would become strained, and you might become pre-diabetic, developing a metabolic syndrome. Then again, no one could sustain that kind of diet, because you need other foods to stay alive and thrive.

It is a common misconception to believe that people became diabetic simply because they had no will power when it comes to sugary foods…but it’s not accurate.

Charlie asks…

What is something to bake with common household ingredients?

I am really craving something sweet.. I noticed we didn’t have anything like brownie mix that I could make, is there anything that is quick and easy I can make with things I should have around my house?

excel2domain answers:

FOUR INGREDIENT PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

1 c. Peanut butter, smooth or crunchy
1 egg
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 c. Sugar

Combine above ingredients. Drop by spoonful into lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees until done (about 5-7 minutes).

Ken asks…

what is a realy good home frangrance or candle?

i live in a studio apartment and don’t want anything too strong, but i want a constant yet inviting and refreshing scent. and i don’t want to spend to much.

excel2domain answers:

A good one is incense. It is very inexpensive and there are lots of subtle ones. Vanilla is good. Cream is really nice too. And a nice thing about incense is the aroma they give off in the stores is pretty darn close to how strong it would be when burnt in your home. So very easy to tell which ones you like and don’t and which ones will be too strong. Personally i think most of the berries are too strong for a small place but that is just me. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Questions And Answers On Anything But Vanilla

Mike asks…

How safe is it to consume protein shakes thrice a day to avoid carbs, cut calories & build muscle not fat?

Protein Powders are available in some delicious flavours like Strawberry, Vanilla & Chocolate. Plus they are great meal replacement therapy along with vigorous exercise. Having them as shakes reducing cravings throughout the day. Is it a good pattern to follow?

excel2domain answers:

Protein drinks are fine as a diet supplement, but not as a meal replacement. (Except those specially designated as meal replacements) Protein without fat can be fatal. (Diarrhea starts first)

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

Your body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don’t your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycosis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want “something” have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. For hot cereal or 2 min. For more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.

Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!

Charlie asks…

How do you make a strawberry Coolata from dunkin donuts?

I want the exact recipe or anything that resembles it. So far no one has any idea how much ice to put in.

excel2domain answers:

I would not use ice at all. I would use frozen strawberries instead of ice. Much more flavor. Here is what I would do:

1 cup frozen strawberries, sliced (When they have thawed just a few minutes they are easy to slice, or you can slice them first, and then freeze them)
1/2 cup milk (nonfat or lowfat okay)
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup pineapple juice
2/3 teaspoon vanilla (extract or any flavouring you like)

Put everything in a blender or food processor, or if you only have a stick mixer, just put it in a large pyrex jug. Blend until smooth.

Helena asks…

What can i do to make flowers smell good?

I am starting a business that will include flower delivery. My problem is that flower shop flowers do not smell like anything. I went in a very well stocked shoppe and the florist could only add one flower to my test bouquet that she thought had some sort of scent, and it was only noticeable up close.
would I be better off going to a garden center instead to find flowers, or just spray them with floral water,or some other fragrance, or sit them in floral water?
what can I do to get my bouquets to smell like something(pleasant)???
or where should i go?

excel2domain answers:

Commercially grown flowers are usually not bred for scent, they are bred for long-lasting appearance, size and color. You don’t find many commercial flowers that have much scent. The only way you can get scent into your flowers is if you grow them in your own greenhouse, and grow the varieties that are scented. You can’t spray them with floral scent. It’s deceptive–and it’s not practical. There are certain plants and flowers that are bred for strong scents, but not most of the commercially grown ones. If you’re making up bouquets for delivery, you can purchase a bunch of scented geraniums (pelargonium)–they flower, but the flowers are not their primary attraction–they have wonderfully scented foliage. You can clip stems of this foliage and include them in your bouquets. The scented geraniums are large enough plants that you would be able to include one or two branches in each bouquet, and they smell like a variety of things: you can get them that smell like roses, vanilla, chocolate, mint, pine, lemon, lime, eucalyptus, strawberries, Old Spice, ginger and a lot of other things; they are very strong-scented leaves and have attractive foliage. AND—they’re not expensive. There are more than 100 varieties, available widely. And they’re easy to care for. They require only well-drained soil, full sunlight, and regular watering. Google a site that sells them in your area.

Elizabeth asks…

What are some of your favorite baking recipes?

I’m just curious. Do you have anything that you are “famous” for?

I’d like to start baking again, and was looking for ideas.

excel2domain answers:

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

1 1/3 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla

2 cups chocolate chips
Mix flour, soda and salt in a bowl; set aside. Cream together margarine and sugars. Beat eggs into sugar mixture. Add vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add the dry ingredients.
Add chocolate chips. Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes . Cookies should be brown around the edges and will finish cooking on the sheet when removed from the oven.

Kirstie asks…

what can i use to substitute for vanilla extract?

i really want to make banana bread and i dont have any vanilla extract. is there anything i can use instead? will it taste funny if i dont use any?

excel2domain answers:

Vanilla is an addition to the recipe, not an essential ingredient. Simply leave it out. In Banana bread you’ll never miss it. If you’re really worried, add an extra banana for a bit more intense flavor.

2/3 teaspoon vanilla (extract or any flavouring you like)

Put everything in a blender or food processor, or if you only have a stick mixer, just put it in a large pyrex jug. Blend until smooth.

Mike asks…

Kylee asks…

What are some of your favorite baking recipes?

I’m just curious. Do you have anything that you are “famous” for?

I’d like to start baking again, and was looking for ideas.

excel2domain answers:

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
2 cups margarine (stick margarine only)
1 1/3 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups chocolate chips
Mix flour, soda and salt in a bowl; set aside. Cream together margarine and sugars. Beat eggs into sugar mixture. Add vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add the dry ingredients.
Add chocolate chips. Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes . Cookies should be brown around the edges and will finish cooking on the sheet when removed from the oven.

Marie asks…

what can i use to substitute for vanilla extract?

i really want to make banana bread and i dont have any vanilla extract. is there anything i can use instead? will it taste funny if i dont use any?

excel2domain answers:

Vanilla is an addition to the recipe, not an essential ingredient. Simply leave it out. In Banana bread you’ll never miss it. If you’re really worried, add an extra banana for a bit more intense flavor.

Jim asks…

What can I season vegetables with for my 11 month old who has a milk allergy?

I cannot use butter or cheese or anything dairy. I have used marinara sauce and olive oil. Any other suggestions?
Actually if you have an good suggestions for lunch or dinner other than just vegetables and a meat that would be great.

excel2domain answers:

He doesn’t need them seasoned at all. You can season them with a little sprinkle of black pepper or Mrs. Dash seasoning, but honestly–he doesn’t need them seasoned. Keep in mind he does not know the difference.

He can have rice, he can have mashed potatoes made with plain silk instead of milk. Homemade vegetable soup or chicken noodle soup (make sure to check the label on the noodles), sandwiches (without cheese), and you can buy him vegan mayo if you think you want him to eat mayo (I’m not sure why it would be necessary for an 11 month old to eat mayo).

Rachel asks…

Does anyone know the correct Recipe for the Sugar Cookies from Great American Cookie Company?

I’ve searched and searched and cannot find anything that is near the recipe. I’ve tried numerous recipes that i have found, but they are not the same. Does anyone know the correct recipe?
Thanks
Update: I tried both of those two recipes below. I found them by searching with google. They are not the same unless i did something wrong, lol. Thanks for trying to help. Any other recipes?

excel2domain answers:

Maybe you have seen this but if you google it, this comes up….
———

GREAT AMERICAN SUGAR COOKIE

1/2 cup (3 14 oz.) Crisco
1 cup (7 1/4 oz. ) sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon Princess Cake & Cookie Flavor (King Arthur stocks it)
2 cups (8 1/2 oz.) all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Beat shortening and sugar together until smooth. Add the egg, vanilla, and cake-and-cookie flavoring. Beat until smooth. Stir together the dry ingredients and add to the sugar mixture until it forms a cohesive dough.

Shape dough into ping pong (1 1/8 oz.) sized balls. Roll in coarse and/or granulated sugar. Place about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly. If you want a shiny-sugary cracked appearance on the cookies, brush with water (or quickly hold under running water), then roll in sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees, or until a VERY light golden brown around the edges. Cool on wire racks. Store in container with loose fitting lid.

Questions And Answers On Anything But Vanilla

This blog post has been optimized using Keyword Winner

Caroline asks…

CAN YOU USE PLAIN SYRUP AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR?

Vanilla?
I am making chocolate chip cookies and don’t have any vanilla and was wondering if the syrup would work or maybe Karo syrup?

excel2domain answers:

Honestly, you can leave it out. It is so little of an amount that it won’t mess up the wet to dry ratio.

But see if you can find something to flavor it. Fresh Ginger? Any other extract? Anything that will give it some flavor. If not…well then it won’t taste as good if you had it, but they won’t be horrible.

Cindy asks…

How many 2liters of orange pop do I add to a 750 ml bottle of vanilla vodka for my creamsicle punch?

Yes, it will be a large quantity and that is fine. It’s a big party. The punch doesn’t need to be extra strong or anything, just average level alcoholic content. And do you think I should add a little half&half to make it creamier? How much?

excel2domain answers:

If you don’t want them tanked – do a three to one. When drinks are poured in the bar it’s usually a little over an ounce of booze to the ice and then about 4-5 ounces of mixer. I’d mix the half and half idea but maybe frozen orage slices – use mandarin oranges if you don’t have oranges readily accessible.

Have fun!!

John asks…

can you use imitation almond flavor as a substitute for vanilla extract?

what can i use as vanilla extract? does imitation almond flavor work?
im making cookies. is imitation almond flavor way different then vanilla extract?

excel2domain answers:

Almond extract is a very strong flavoring and needs to be used at half what Vanilla extract is called for. But you can use the imitation almond flavoring at the same measurements as Vanilla Extract called for.

If you were to use imitation vanilla flavoring you would have to double the amount to replace the Vanilla Extract called for.

I like to use different extracts and flavorings in foods to make changes from the normal.

Extracts do not have anything to do with texture or bonding of ingredients at all. They are just a flavoring substance and are not totally necessary to any recipe at all ever.
50 + years as a ranch cook and used to own and operate a bakery.

Steve asks…

What happens if I omit vanilla extract from a recipe?

I don’t have any and i have the baking urge. Would it still taste okay? Anything else I could use?

excel2domain answers:

It should be ok, but it depends what the recipe is. Most likely, only a very slight variation in flavour. Depending on the recipe, I might just leave it out, or replace it with almond extract (use less), peppermint extract (use MUCH less), or rum (use more).

Kirstie asks…

Is there any other lotion that smells like Victoria Secret Warm Vanilla Comfort lotion?

I love this lotion and they don’t have it at Victoria’s Secret anymore. Is there anything else there or anywhere that smells like it??? It was in a purple bottle. And if possible could you tell me your favorite lotion?
Oh, and thank you!

excel2domain answers:

Well, like other people said, eBay. But also try going to Rite-Aid or any other drug store, and go down the lotion isle. Vanilla is a very popular scent in lotions, shampoo and stuff.

My favorite lotion is Banana Coconut from Avon
